The Ombudsman of the Kyrgyz Republic and the U.S. Ambassador discussed the human rights situation in Kyrgyzstan

The Ombudsman of the Kyrgyz Republic, Dzhamilia Dzhamanbaeva, and the U.S. Ambassador to the Kyrgyz Republic, Leslie Vigeri, held a meeting.

The parties discussed the human rights situation in Kyrgyzstan.

Dzhamilia Dzhamanbaeva noted the contribution of the U.S. Embassy in Kyrgyzstan, as well as the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), in promoting fundamental values ​​of human rights, democracy, the rule of law, and civil society in Kyrgyzstan.

"As part of our cooperation with USAID, a number of extremely important projects have been implemented to promote high standards of human rights and freedoms, including 'Jigerduu Jarandar' and 'Ukuk Bulagy'," said the Ombudsman.

The U.S. Ambassador expressed the importance of ensuring freedom of operation for non-governmental organizations in Kyrgyzstan.

"The role of civil society is crucial in defending the rights of citizens. In this regard, it is important to ensure the freedom of operation for representatives of civil society," the Ambassador said.

The parties discussed the importance of activating a number of joint projects that will positively contribute to the protection of human rights and freedoms in Kyrgyzstan.

They also agreed on the need to take a comprehensive set of measures aimed at improving the human rights situation in Kyrgyzstan.
